The Beatles in Stereo CD Set was released on September 9th of 2009 it immediately became the ultimate standard for The Beatles legendary albums. These stereo versions sound far better than the old discs from the 80s. When when I compare these new remasters to the old CDs it’s like the old discs are under a pile of wet blankets while the new CDs sound very clear so that all of the vocals and instrumentation punch through the mix instead of being muffled.
The Beatles in Stereo CD Set isn’t the only box set by The Beatles released in ‘09 but it is the most popular because it can be appreciated by the widest range of Beatles fans. The Beatles Mono Box Set is excellent too but it appeals more to Beatles purists who want to listen to the mono mixes (because that’s how most fans in the 1960s heard this music) than to the average fan. While I will agree with the “purists” that there are some songs that sound better in mono than in stereo (particularly quite a few of the pre Peper recordings) all things considered I think the stereo box set does sound the best.
The fantastic thing about The Beatles in Stereo CD Set is that it allows you to acquire The Beatles complete 60s discography with just one order and considering the extremely high quality of all of their LPs, it makes sense to buy them all at one time instead of picking up some and then getting more later.
And beyond the great music included in this box set there are some cool visual parts, most obviously the DVD with 13 mini documentaries on it (one for each studio album.) Along with this 50 minute DVD there are extensive liner notes for each album (there is some excellent stuff in these notes, especially for fans who are new to the group) and some great unpublished pictures.
I am such a big Beatles fan that I’ve purchased (or am planning on purchasing) The Beatles Stereo Set, The Beatles Mono Set, The Beatles USB Flash Drive, and The Beatles Rock Band Game. But if I had to pick only one of these things, it would have to be the complete stereo box because it is the best hear their legendary albums and of course, it is their influential albums that is the most important.
